Jim serves as a Deacon, Trustee, and Bible teacher at FBCK. He came to know Jesus Christ as his savior in the summer of 1968 at the age of 14. From that day until now he sought to learn and know the truth about God, the Bible, and the New Testament Church. He became active in Church attendance and after several years of searching and meeting Marilyn, the woman who later became his wife, he was introduced to East Side Missionary Baptist Church in Hot Springs, AR. Jim attended, studied, and in some cases debated with the people East Side for about 18 months. It was during this period that he came under conviction about Baptism and Church Membership. After obtaining assurance of his salvation and resolving his questions about Baptism, he was Baptized and became a member in 1972. Jim started visiting, witnessing, and teaching all within the first year of becoming a Church member. Over the next eight years, Jim served in several capacities to include teaching children and adults. Glenwood Missionary Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL recognized Jim’s commitment, leadership, teaching, witnessing, and organization skills and ordained him to the office of Deacon on September 6, 1981. Over the intervening 40+ years under the Lord’s guidance, Jim has served as Deacon in six different Churches and has been a Deacon, Trustee, and Bible teacher with First Baptist Church of Kingstowne for the last 30 years.

Dr. Steve Moore
Trustee, Teacher, KBBI Dean
Steve was raised in a small farming community in northern Illinois, and true to those midwestern roots, he accepted Christ as his Savior behind a livestock tent at the county fair. He was later baptized by 20th Street Missionary Baptist Church of Rockford, Illinois, the same church that he and his wonderful wife Lynn were married in. (They now have three children and seven grandchildren.) He received a BS degree from MacMurray College, and a PhD in theoretical physics from Iowa State University.
In 1985, Steve and Lynn moved their family to northern Virginia, and (except for a brief field tour in Arizona) they have been members of FBCK ever since. Over the years, Steve served in numerous roles in the church, including trustee, Sunday School Superintendent, AWANA Commander, and leader of adult and teen Bible studies. He has also done lay preaching at FBCK and sister churches. His latest focus has been on leading the Kingstowne Baptist Bible Institute, FBCK’s initiative to equip Christians with Bible-centered knowledge, experience, and support for next-level ministry.
Steve recently retired from a distinguished career at a federal research center, where he assisted DoD with the adoption of new technologies, tactics, and processes. In addition to serving others through the church, his joys now include spending time with family, doing genealogical research, and watching sports (go Cyclones!).
Chris L. Smith
Originally from Oregon and points West, he served in the Navy.
The Lord brought him to Virginia from San Diego in 1999 on house hunting leave. He was blessed to locate a place near the church whose original owner was his Captain's boss (!). This was a divine appointment, and he has been a productive member of First Baptist for a couple of decades now. He has taught various Sunday School, VBS classes, and been blessed to serve as the AWANA Commander for the past couple of years.
Chris holds an engineering undergraduate degree and a couple of master's degrees, but hopes all that book learnin' will not be held against him.
