As many can attest, there is a shortage of scripturally sound independent Baptist churches in the Fayetteville, North Carolina area. For instance, Ric and Diane Kimmich used to drive three hours each way to attend services at Eastern Landmark MBC (Rock Hill, SC). In the summer of 2013, Eastern Landmark responded to the need in Fayetteville. Under the authority of Eastern Landmark, a core group started meeting regularly in the Kimmich's hone, including ABA Chaplain Terry Romines and retired ABA pastor Bill Webb. On August 10, 2013, First Heritage Baptist Church was officially launched.

In January 2014, Mike Jones took over as the first missionary-pastor at First Heritage. He and his wife Jenna had previolusly been in Ludowci, Georgia, where he served as pastor at Pigott Branch MBC. The work in Fayetteville has seen steady growth since their arrival, and in June 2014, First Heritage started holding Sunday services in the gymnasium of a local school.
