Featured Missionary: Reggie Tipton

May 24, 2014 at 8:40 PM

Our featured missionary family this week is Reggie and Ashley Tipton.

According to some folks, Reggie Tipton, former pastor at White Oak Baptist Church (Nancy, Kentucky) is crazy. White Oak is a prestigious church, founded in 1801 and believed to be the oldest congregation in the American Baptist Association. However, the church had fallen on difficult times, with sagging attendance and stalled ministries, when Tipton took over as pastor in 2008. Under Tipton’s leadership, the church found renewed vigor. Within three years, attendance had increased sixfold and the church had started a number of new ministries to reach into the community. Things were humming along.

But last summer, Tipton resigned the pastorate at White Oak to become a missionary. Crazy? Perhaps, but he felt God’s call to go to Brazil, and he had to respond. The couple (and their five children) already have a sending church, and they will soon start deputation work. After that, the family will head to Caraguatatuba, Sao Paulo, Brazil, where they will be working with missionary Jay Ross and his family.
