Featured Missionary: Jon and Emelie Rettig

Each week, FBCK features a different missionary family to learn about and pray for. This week's featured missionary is Jon and Emelie Rettig of Prague, Czech Republic.

Once, as a young man, Jon Rettig engaged with friends in a philosophical discussion – is there a heaven and a hell? The question nagged at him, and he turned to the scriptures for the answer. What he read put him under conviction. Finally, one November evening, alone in his apartment, he repented and accepted the salvation that Christ offered him. He was baptized by Central Baptist Church of Moline, Illinois.

In the late 1980’s, as Eastern Europe came out from communism, Rettig became increasingly burdened with the need for the gospel in the new Czech Republic. He came forward in a revival meeting and send, “Here am I, Lord, send me.” In February 1994, he and his wife Emelie arrived in Prague as a missionary to the Czech people.

The Rettigs have established Prague Baptist Church in west Prague. Growth has been slow over the last twenty years, but the small congregation is now strong in faith, united in love for Christ, and zealous for the gospel.
